Le palmipède avait fait une halte migratoire un peu contrainte probablement due à son épuisement. Données intéressantes car la Marmaronette marbrée est possiblement l'anatidé le plus raréfié de la Méditerranée occidentale et du Sahara : environ 5000 individus (Espagne, Algérie, Tunisie et surtout Maroc qui en accueille la majorité des hivernants), soumis à un très fort erratisme, ce qui ne facilite pas son recensement ni sa protection.
