Estonian is now part of the DBnary family
We are proud to announce that DBnary now also extracts the Estonian Language Edition. With this addition, DBnary is still the most complete wiktionary extraction dataset with 27 different language editions taken care of.
Read MoreJuly/August 2026 extracts have been retracted
Due to a major bug in the new media wiki dumps infrastructure, the July and August 2026 dumps were incomplete, leading to many missing pages, despite attempts to mitigate the bug. This led to extracts with missing Lexical Entries, especially in very active Wiktionaries (mainly English and French ones). Hence these extracts are not on par with our quality exigence. We decided to simply retract them. You will not be able to download them and if you did, please use another version. The live dbnary version will be updated with the September 2026 version as soon as it is complete.

- Extraction
- Jul 15, 2024
Wiktionary dictionary entries sometimes have examples or citation and we already extracted some of them in certain languages. With the work from Emmanuel Mayoux-Li, our undergrad intern, we added more languages and also fixed obsolete extractors to better get such examples and citations. For instance, this is more the 350,000 examples in German that were rencently added to the DBnary dataset. Such examples may be interesting for researchers that want illustrations of a word sense usage in a real sentence.

Gaelic and Catalan editions are now part of DBnary, which brings the number of language editions extracted by wiktionary to 25 ! Thanks to Arnaud Alet (1st year student in Grenoble) for creating the two extractors.

The english extractor should now correctly extract examples and citations (along with references) from the English Language Edition. Such examples where initially extracted for the French Edition and we will try to extend such extraction for all other editions.
Read MoreEager to meet the Exolexica ?
Since its beginning, the DBnary dataset made the choice to extract what I call the endolexicon, i.e. the language data corresponding to the extracted language edition (e.g. French data is extracted from French language Edition). Since its 20220120 edition, DBnary now make available the exolexicon, i.e. all non French language data that is described in French language Edition. As the dataset is extracted for 22 different language editions, this accounts from thousands of different languages, now available from the dumps (Turtle format), from the HDT binary DB files (directly pluggable into your own Jena instance) and from Dbnary SPARQL endpoint (/sparql).

DBnary dataset is now made available in HDT
Warning HDT support has been dropped: combined HDT files are no longer produced. Use the Turtle dumps described on the Dataset page or the online access. You can now directly download an HDT* version of a whole language edition dataset (i.e. core, statistics, lime, enhanced translations, morphology and etymology (when available)). Everything is combined in one HDT file that is directly usable.
Read MoreA new dashboard will give you latest statistics on DBnary dataset
Since 2020, the statistics on DBnary datasets were provided in RDF using the datacube vocabulary. As a result, the graphs available on this site were inaccurate (as they displayed previous, older, stats). We have built a new dashboard wordpress plugin (which is still in early alpha stage, yet may be useful). It is available under the new “Dashboard” page. Fill free to file many bug reports as we are still in early alpha stage for this dashboard.
